New to the neighbourhood of Kitsilano, Chi Modern Vietnamese Kitchen offers more than just the traditional pho and banh mi’s. Head chef Chi Le, a former Master Chef Vietnam runner-up, has seen her dream of opening an upscale Vietnamese restaurant come to reality. Her passion for cooking and her creative take on traditional Vietnamese cuisine is reflected in her dishes.
I was here with a few other bloggers to sample a few of their most popular menu items.
So Deep Song (Atlantic Sea Scallop) with cucumber marinated in citrus served with red Thai chili and black tobiko. Not a traditional Vietnamese dish, but nonetheless, a clean and refreshing starter.
Canh Ga Chien (Chi Chicken Wings) Free range chicken wings tossed in fish and tamarind garlic sauce.
Cha Gio Vit (Crispy Duck Rolls) Brome Lake sous-vide duck with rice noodles wrapped in rice paper.
Com Chien (Chi Fried Rice) Vietnamese sausage stir-fried with green onion, ginger garlic crumble and topped with a raw egg.
Cha Ca La Vong – Blackcod marinated in turmeric and galangal served with rice vermicelli, fresh dill, mixed herbs and roasted peanuts.
Bo Luc Lac (Shaken Beef), marinated AAA filet mignon served with fresh herbs, watercress and onions.
Bo Tai Chanh (Beef Carpaccio) Snake River wagyu beef with lime juice, topped with crispy shallots, peanuts and fresh herbs.
Ca Kho To (Sable Fish Claypot) with shallots, red chili, and caramel fish sauce.
Dessert; Durian rice balls in light syrup.
Chi Modern Vietnamese Kitchen is great place to check out for anyone looking to expand their Vietnamese palate. They are open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am-2pm, and 5pm-10pm.
