Q At The Empress – Fairmont Empress

Q at the Empress is a new edition to the remodelled hotel. Beautiful rich cherry woods adorn the new space, giving it a traditional feel with modern accents.
Under executive Chef Morgan Wilson, the restaurant offers Pacific Northwest cuisine that’s locally sourced from farmers and sustainable seafood. The restaurant also produces their own herbs and vegetables on their rooftop garden to ensure fresh produce is at hand.
Who doesn’t love a charcuterie platter? This platter was exceptional and everything was sourced from ‘Whole Beast’, a local butcher in Victoria. From the house-made salami, duck pate, to the pickled vegetables, it was impressive.
This Octopus Poke dish came highly recommended and I was happy that we ordered it. The octopus was tender and quite flavourful. The tomato and dressing added a nice acidity to the dish.
Poached Halibut with minted peas, kale and sunflower seed salad. At first glance, the presentation of this dish did not appeal to me and therefore I wasn’t expecting much. Boy, was I fooled. The halibut was unbelievable; tender and lightly seasoned. The peas, kale and sunflower salad was lightly dressed and was a perfect side.
A decadent ending to a lovely meal was the Empress Torte. This gluten and dairy free torte is a chocolate lovers dream; it’s rich, dense and not overly sweet. A fun fact that I discovered about this torte is that it can travel up to four days without refrigeration and still retains its flavour and moisture.
Overall, the meal we had was well prepared. The Q at the Empress is an ideal restaurant for anyone seeking a romantic dinner or celebrating a special occasion.
Q at the Empress is open for breakfast 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m and reservations are highly recommended.
