After a little hiatus due to renovations, Afternoon Tea at the Empress is back in the Lobby Lounge of the Fairmont Empress. The hotel is situated in the heart of downtown with stunning water views of Victoria Inner Harbour.

We were promptly seated to our window table and the server presented us with a wooden tea menu. The menu encased 21 types of loose leaf tea offered for the service, including the most popular “Fairmont Blend” (which is included with Afternoon Tea). The other types of teas are available for an additional fee. The server suggested I have a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne while we decided on our tea selection.

In addition to the Fairmont Blend, I added the Organic Cream Earl Grey. Each pot of tea comes with a timing device to determine how long you would like to steep your tea.

When the tea set arrived, I was so eager to start eating. Our server suggested to start with the scones as they were best to eaten warm. The scones, served with homemade clotted cream and jam,  were absolutely divine!

On the bottom tier were the finger sandwiches –  traditional English cucumber, smoked steelhead salmon pinwheel, slow roasted turkey breast and island egg salad on a brioche bun. The sandwiches were perfect.

The dessert tier; Chocolate cremeux dome tart, pistachio raspberry delice, mini carrot banana loaf, passion fruit strawberry pavlova and citrus fennel shortbread.

The kids were also given the option of having their own sets; Prince & Princess Tea. They were a hit with my kids. Everything made was catered to their little fingers.

Top Tier: strawberry chocolate marshmallow, citrus shortbread lollipop and vanilla rainbow cupcake.
Middle Tier: mini raisin scones with homemade clotted cream and jam
Bottom Tier: slow roasted turkey sandwich, organic peanut butter + jelly and english cucumber sandwich.

I loved sipping tea on fine china, indulging in the delicious finger foods, and feeling like royalty.  Some may suggest the price is costly, but based on the line up of patrons and our experience, it’s well worth it. Afternoon Tea service starts at 11am to 5:00pm (summer hours) and reservations are highly recommended.

Afternoon Tea Pricing:
$105 per adult including a Glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne
$75 per adult without champagne
$37.50 per child
