 Shangri-La Hotel has partnered with the Vancouver Art Gallery to celebrate Picasso and his Muses; the six women who influenced his life and art. The Market by Jean-Georges has created a dinner series featuring the muses and their  role on that period of Picasso’s work.

The Muses Dinner series will run throughout the course of the exhibition, with each menu focusing on the muse and her influence on that period of Picasso’s work:

30 June to 20 July | Olga Khokhlova | Neoclassisicm and Maternité
21 July to 10 August | Marie-Thérèse Walter | A Surrealist Affair

I was here to try the first dinner series; Fernande Olivier | From the Rose Period to Cubism.

Delighted to start my evening with a Femme-Fleur; A cocktail made of Yellow Chartreuse, Capel Premium Pisco, Luxardo Maraschino, Cascade Celery Bitters, Cherry Wood Smoked Rosemary, Lemon Thyme, Absinthe Rinse. The smokiness from the rosemary really stood out in this savoury cocktail.

Chilled Tomato and Pepper Soup with Side Striped Shrimp; an ideal palate cleanser.

FOIE GRAS TERRINE

IMG_3664This edible art was made with Louis XIII Cognac and Brioche with preserved Hibiscus Flower. The rich foie gras, cured for seven days, was topped with coarse salt, and sweet apple bits. The sweetness from the apple and preserved Hibiscus flower worked very well with the salt and rich foie gras. This was a superb dish.

Soon to follow was a nicely seasoned pan seared halibut on a melody of vegetables that included confit fennel, leeks, saffron, and absinthe beurre blanc.

The Smoked Lamb Loin was prepared with lardo, roasted carrots, and blueberry grand veneur sauce.

AVANTE GARDE COCKTAIL

This cocktail inspired by Fernande Olivier consisted of Hendrick’s Gin, Lillet Blanc, Creme De Cassis, Raspberry, Rosewater, Egg White, and Ginger Lace. The Rosewater was very prominent in this drink.

The Strawberry Mousse with Pink Peppercorn Chiffon and Rose Champagne Gelee was paired with Avante Garde Cocktail.  This was such an elegant dish- the chiffon and mousse was light and airy. A spectacular ending to a beautiful meal.

The Muses Dinner is available daily from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., for $110 per person. Guests can also choose a $128 dinner package that includes the Muses Dinner and an express entry ticket to Picasso: The Artist and His Muses exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. For reservations, guests can call Market by Jean-Georges at 604 695 1115, or book online.
