Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Located at the iconic Sutton Place Hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar provides a unique showcase for the culinary vision of Executive Chef Alex Chen. With an innovative approach that blends a respect for the past with a celebration of the present, Chen’s seafood-focused menu is grounded in classical technique and training, while artfully infusing casual West Coast flair and creative hints of his international influences. Paired with exceptional service, a wide-ranging selection of wine and cocktails and true European ambiance in a traditional-yet-modern setting.[i]

The newest chapter to Boulevard’s Sunday Supper Series is a family-style dinner, featuring the Spanish Paella.

I was excited to attend my first Sunday Supper Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar last week.

The first entree was this beautifully presented poached White Asparagus Salad made with Manchego Cheese, Free Range Egg and Sherry Vinaigrette. It was such a delight to have a refreshing dish to start the night. The egg was poached medium and partnered beautifully with the creamy manchego and tendercrisp  asparagus.

POACHED WHITE ASPARAGUS SALAD

Chef Alex Chen’s ‘piece de resistance’, a colourful paella filled with Roasted Ling Cod, Local Clams and Mussels, Prawns, Chorizo Soffritto, Saffron and Shellfish Stock.  It was quickly  plated and served  with a trio of sauces, but I found the flavour was intense enough that you didn’t require it. This large family-style dish is meant to be shared amongst a table of at least four and it was more than enough for everyone, with seconds.

VALENCIA ORANGE-INFUSED CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

Chocolate Mousse served with Olive Oil Ice Cream and Saffron Orange Coulis was to end my wonderful dinner.  The Olive Oil Ice Cream was subtle in flavour so it was a perfect pairing with the rich chocolate mousse.

Boulevard’s Sunday Paella Supper series is an amazing deal for anyone interested in a family style dining at an elegant restaurant. You will leave happy and content.
